Why is playing board games good for your brain?

Very true indeed!! Participating in board games stimulates your brain cells. Just as physical exercise is important for maintaining a healthy body, playing board games challenges your brain cells and keeps them healthy. In addition to having fun, many board games deal with high level cognitive skills which help sharpen the brain and boost brain functions. Working in the area of neurology as an occupational therapist for more than 20 years, I totally agree how important it is to keep the brain and body healthy. Research has shown that learning and doing new activities make the brain healthier. So why not participate?

Playing any and every board games makes the brain stimulated; take chess for example, think of all the cognitive skills required perform a move! From scanning, predicting, analyzing, recalling and anticipating the move patterns of all the different pieces, what a challenge for the brain. Nowadays there are many modern board games that are challenging like chess but also fun and silly, as well stimulating for the brain. Who says games can not be silly?
